Yellowstone Parks
Who hasn't heard of Yellowstone Parks? The oldest National Park in the United States, Yellowstone National Park is located in three states -- Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. This park was created in 1872 and is without a doubt the country's most famous national park. Here you will find all kinds of indigenous wildlife and plant life. Animals like elk, bison, grizzly bears and wolves call the wilderness of this park home. Also located here is Old Faithful, the famous geyser. In addition to Old Faithful there are other lesser known geysers and hot springs in the park.
One thing you should know before planning a Yellowstone getaway is that different seasons have different issues and closings depending upon the weather. During mid to late spring and summer most of the entrances and roads are open and cleared for travel. However during the fall, winter and early spring there may be closures due to ice and snow. The peak travel season of summer is a time when tourists flock to this park, so make your reservations ahead of time if this is the time of year you prefer to visit.
In order to enter the park an entry fee must be paid. If you plan to visit this park, or any of the National Parks, on a regular or frequent basis consider the annual pass that grants you admission to every park in the country. The current rate per vehicle is $25, however there are reduced rates for entry on foot or on small vehicles like motorcycles and bikes. Senior citizens can find even bigger discounts as they can purchase a $10 Interagency Pass which grants them lifetime admission to the park as long as they are 62 or older.
Because Yellowstone Parks is such a historic and popular area you will find no shortage of fun things to do. There are campgrounds and lots of activities to participate in such as hiking, boating, fishing, horseback riding, guided tours, biking and of course relaxing among beautiful scenery. During your time at this park, make sure to visit the information center and view any available exhibits. Understanding the rich heritage and history of this, and other National Parks gives a new appreciation for these protected areas. You will also probably want plenty of snapshots of the landscape, so don't forget to pack your camera!
