National Yosemite

The National Yosemite Park is located in the state of California. This park is situated in the east of Madera, Mariposa and Tuolumne counties. Covering 1189 square miles, the park is one of the most popular, and one of the oldest national parks in the United States. It is estimated that more than three million people visit the park annually. The majority of them spend their time at Yosemite in the valley area. The Yosemite Valley is seven square miles and although that seems small compared to the total area of the park there is still lots to see and do.

Yosemite National Park was deemed a World Heritage Site in the 1980s. Part of the reason for this honor is the spectacular landscape, which includes cliffs of granite, crystal clear streams, waterfalls and groves of Giant Sequoia trees. Because the area is so diverse there are also a variety of animals that reside there. While you may see some of them, most of them are deep within the wilderness that makes up approximately 95 percent of the park.

There are many notable features of Yosemite you can't miss. For example, El Capitan is a world renowned cliff known not only for its majestic beauty but also as a top rock climbing spot. Not only does El Capitan feature a variety of climbing areas it offers year round accessibility. Maybe rock climbing is not your cup of tea. Luckily in Yosemite you can also enjoy more laid back activities like camping, hiking and biking. Some visitors to the park go just to bird watch or take photos of plants or wildlife.

Like all national parks, there is an entry fee to gain access to National Yosemite Park. However you can purchase an annual pass that allows you year round access to all the parks in the United States. The National Park Service, also known as NPS, is an agency that takes care of the parks in the U.S. On their website you can view more information about what they do and also about Yosemite Park. All the parks in the U.S. are listed on their site by various criteria such as state or name. Learning more about your destination before you travel can help make things run smoothly.
