National Parks Of America

The National Parks of America have a rich and diverse history that spans all the way back to 1872. This is when Yellowstone National Park was established, making it the first of its kind. To this day, Yellowstone remains one of the most popular parks in the country and boasts Old Faithful, the most famous geyser in America. Today there are 58 official national parks, but many other government protected reserves and monuments.

The next park to be established after Yellowstone was Sequoia National Park located in California. This park was established in 1890, the same year as Yosemite National Park in the same state. These parks are also very popular, perhaps the most popular of the eight parks in California. To follow these parks was Mount Rainier in Oregon and Crater Lake in Oregon. Mount Rainier was of course named for the summit while Crater Lake got its moniker from the massive lake that is the deepest in the United States.

In the early 1900s many other parks began popping up all over the world. For example in 1916 the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park was born. To this day tourists flock to the park to get a close look at the breathtaking natural features of the landscape. One year later in 1917 came Denali National Park, far away in the frosty state of Alaska. Denali has a lot to offer even today, including guided tours, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, dog sledding and so much more. Other notable parks around the country include Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota and Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado to name just three.

No matter where you are in the United States there is likely a park near you. While the National Parks of America are not evenly distributed there are enough of them to give all citizens the chance to visit at least one. If you are someone who loves the outdoors you will appreciate the pristine beauty of these protected areas. All national parks require an entry fee for admission, however there are yearly passes that can save you money on fees if you visit often. National parks are the perfect place for a day-long getaway or a week long camping trip. They truly have something to offer the whole family.
