National Parks Hiking

If you love getting back to nature, hiking is the perfect activity for you. There are lots of fantastic opportunities for National Parks hiking at locations around the country. A national park is an area of land designated by the federal government as protected. There are parks of this type all over the country, including Alaska and Hawaii. In the contiguous 48 states you'll find a large number of parks, preserves and other government protected areas of land to enjoy. The national parks are spread unevenly among the states, for example Alaska has 8 parks while New Mexico only has one.

No matter what park you are planning to visit you should find hiking opportunities. Whether trekking through the subtropical Florida Everglades National Park or navigating the forest trails in Virginia's Shenandoah National Park you are sure to see a lot of gorgeous scenery. There are many other parks ideal for hikers including Grand Canyon National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park and Yosemite National Park. These are only a fraction of the many parks in which hiking can be enjoyed.

Before you set off on your outdoor adventure you will need the right supplies. Your clothing should reflect the climate of the location you are headed. A good pair of hiking boots is also a must. Also, you should know that there is a fee to get into each park so you'll also need money. If you are someone who likes to visit multiple parks throughout the year consider purchasing a yearly pass that gets you admission into every U.S. national park. This is an economical choice for anyone who is located near numerous parks or who plans to visit various parks across the country for an extended period of time.

Whether you go to one park or lots of them you're sure to enjoy National Parks hiking. Because these parks are protected, the animals and plant life can flourish undisturbed. The scenery waiting for you at a National Park is bound to be incredible and the experience of hiking among the natural beauty is something you'll always treasure. For more information about visiting any of the federally protected parks in the United States a good reference is the NPS (National Parks Service) website.
