Everglades National Parks
There are federally protected national parks all over the country, including the state of Florida. Everglades National Parks are popular with tourists and locals alike because of the many great features of this region. The Florida Everglades happens to be the biggest subtropical area in the United States, with its National Park welcoming more than one million visitors annually. This park is the third largest in the the contiguous United States with Death Valley and Yellowstone being the top two. Not only is the Everglades park large and popular with tourists, it has been deemed a Wetland of International Importance, an International Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site.
The Florida Everglades is a lush haven for exotic wildlife such as the 36 protected species who reside there. A sampling of these creatures includes the American crocodile, Florida panther and even a type of manatee native to the West Indies. There are also a wide variety of tropical and wading birds, hundreds of fish species and around 50 reptile species who call the park home. This National Park is not without its share of controversy, as many believe human intervention has damaged the fragile ecosystem. There are lots of conservation and rejuvenation issues regarding the Everglades being discussed, especially in the southern portion of the state.
Peak tourist season for the Everglades is between the months of December and March. This is the time when the temperature is coolest, resulting in the lowest annual population of pesky mosquitoes. When you visit the park you'll discover four different centers for visitors and a wide variety of things to see and do. For example, you may want to go on one of the various biking or hiking trails. There are guided tours on foot, boat tours and much more. Camping and fishing are more outdoor activities commonly enjoyed by visitors to the Everglades.
When planning a trip to Everglades National Parks you may want to do some online research regarding activities, accommodations and other travel related issues. By mapping out a basic itinerary and figuring out what interests you about the park ahead of time, you can save yourself a lot of hassle once you arrive at your destination. When visiting the Everglades take your camera and an adventurous spirit for a vacation you'll never forget.
